StoryLine Online is a very cool website where you can choose books that you like and have them read to you by famous movie stars. Click on the picture below to visit the site.
We read the folk tale 'Why do dogs chase cats?' And then retold it it in our own words and created illustrations. We then took photos of our illustrations and used them to create short movies on iMovie. Check them out below!
This Term we have started using the AVAILLL reading programme. AVAILLL is an acronym for Audio Visual Achievement In Literacy, Language and Learning. In this unit we 'read/watch' specific movies with the subtitles on and complete activities. One of the activities we have done so far is 'Surprise Subtitles'. This is where we are watching the movie and reading the subtitles and all of a sudden Miss Taylor pauses the movie and we have to write down the last subtitle we read.
AVAILLL aims to improve our reading fluency and vocabulary knowledge. The movie we are currently watching is 'Hook' based on the novel 'Peter Pan'.
We are learning about non fiction texts. We found out that a non fiction text is true, factual or informative rather than something that is made up. We looked at fiction and non fiction texts and picked out some of the differences between the two, we also identified lots of non fiction features.
We then sorted these features out under the following headings; help features (these are features which help the reader to locate, use and understand the information in a text), graphic features (these are a visual way to get information quickly) and presentation/layout features (these are the way that things are arranged on the page).
