We read an excerpt today from the book "Boy" by Roald Dahl. Together we made some text to self connections with the text. We are practicing using the right language when we make these connections.

Making connections is when we link something we have read with something we already know. There are three kinds of connections we are learning to make while we are reading:
Text to Self - This is when we relate something we have read to our own personal experiences.
Text to text - This is when we relate something we have read to other texts.
Text to world - This is when we relate something we have read to the wider world.
Inferencing is when we use the text and our own prior knowledge to interpret what we think the author is really trying to say.
This helps us to have a better understanding of the texts we read. We can also create our own unique meaning of the text. As we read our understandings are sometimes revised as we are exposed to new information. This confirms or adjusts our thinking.
